in addition to that:
- How do the Halo books do in terms of representation? Women, POC, LGBTQA characters, and all intersections? My 13yo brother has read 4 of them now and he LOVES them and the one he’s reading right now (the 4th I think) is in fact written by a woman, which is awesome, and as far as I can tell there are also plenty of female characters, which is great. All I know is that my brother really, really loves those books and always wants to tell me about them and that those kinds of videogames are usually marketed at the heterosexual male, but idk about the books. Anybody know?
- Same with Pokemon, haha, actually. What do y’all think of representation beyond the straight white male in Pokemon? I actually think that Misty is a great female character, as much as the boys make fun of her. She is not afraid to show her feelings, but she is by no means weaker than either of the boys. She has a lot of typically “girly” traits but she’s still, actually a surprisingly round character. I don’t know about the later Pokemon ladies, though. And what do you think of Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy? They’re the same everywhere, literally stock characters, but they’re women of authority wherever they are, and it’s cool to have that representation and strong role models, I think. And Officer Jenny is just hilarious, I love her.
