So I want to write this YJ fanfiction with Andrea, and in it there are two “sisters,” Shade and Shadow.
some spoilers for a yet unwritten fanfic:
Shade - she goes by the name Isabel, but Shadow calls her “Izzy” - is actually an immortal sorceress. Ha ha, surpriiiiiise. She eternally manifests herself in the body of a girl in her late teens. Much of her power is involved in like, supernatural-y things, specifically like demon deals, or deals with otherworldly spirits. So what she does is she seeks out strong-but-broken souls, and then brokers a deal with a demon to give powers to this sidekick/assistant/whatever of hers, and uses her own magic to manipulate that power. On her own, her powers are pretty basic magic, but she specifically has a handling of dark magic that lets her use these evil spirit-y energy or whatever. But in order to access that, a contract must be made and she isn’t quite ready to forfeit her soul yet, so she uses other people and controls them.
So she finds this girl. Her name is Jane Prynne, but she goes by JP. This girl’s family was brutally murdered, but then she attacked the person who killed her family - and she killed him. Strong, but broken. Isabel finds this girl and plays the kind savior role and manipulates her into entering a contract. She possesses great powers, then, but she’s not inherently magical and so they manifest as much more physical powers (i.e. superstrength, invulnerability, and I’m thinking some kind of energy-type blast which is really unpredictable and, in order to work correctly, needs Izzy’s focus and direction). So she calls herself Shadow. Shadow grows up a few years with Shade and and the relationship they’ve established is strangely sisterly, even though Shade really kind of uses Shadow as her bodyguard of sorts.
Also, Shade lives like a human. Likes the perks of being human. So she’s a hired assassin, ha ha ha. Except she’s a master at making deals and contracts, and often loops herself a hole or manipulates the contract-holder into actually giving her something. But she enjoys living rich and large, and so does Shadow.
There was an open hit sent out for Cheshire, and when Shade saw it she went straight to the source and arranged an individual deal. (This is during the 5 years in between seasons, when Cheshire was searching for Speedy with Roy.) And so she and Shadow set out to hunt down Jade Nguyen.
When they find her, Shadow is bewildered, because instead of killing her, Shade only talks to her. As it turns out, Shade had approached Jade several years before she found Shadow, trying to lure her into making a deal. Jade had refused. Strong, but not broken. Not very many of those she approached had this response, so Shade had a natural curiosity. She meets Jade again, and walks away without touching her. When Shadow asks, she explains that she wrote that contract. If there is a loophole, she’s damn well going to take advantage of it.
Her interest is piqued, because Jade mentioned the search for Speedy, and that goddamned team of superpowered children, and the bitterness in her voice intrigued her. Children, brought up in the life of a superhero. Strong. Broken? She decides to investigate, to perhaps expand her arsenal.
She and Shadow crash a mission, and are almost attacked, but they explain that they’re their own little superteam, and that it was just coincidence they bumped into each other. Nightwing in particular does NOT buy it, but he saw Shade using a kind of magic that he was unfamiliar with, and asked Zatanna about it. Zatanna seemed worried, and insisted that he invite them on to the team. They need to be watched, she says.
ANYWAY BASICALLY it’d be about everybody making Shade uncomfortable with how invasively normal they are, and how Shadow slowly begins to open up and act like a regular person again, and members of the team begin to notice that something’s weird about the two of them, and Shade still has contacts outside of the team and and and
idk but I like this idea
