Okay honestly to clarify what I posted a while ago about tags.

If you’re going to be posting, “OMG I HATE KORY SO EFFING MUCH. She is a stupid whore slut and ruins everything she’s in!!!! Dick/Jason/Roy/anyone is too good for her omg go die!”

then no don’t tag that “koriand’r” or “starfire” or anything like that. Because that’s just mindless hating and it’s not fair and not cool.

BUT if you’re going to be posting, “I really cannot stand Koriand’r because I think her character has been driven into the ground due to her obsession with Dick. I find it really annoying and counterproductive that she’s pining over Dick all the time and yet supposed to be this awesome, inspiring, independent character. Reboot!Kory is not any better because despite this past issue, she’s still this stupid little alien “creature” and it’s really, really unappealing. Not to mention the fact that what she wears is stupid and unnecessary and just doesn’t work. It’s really dumb and it reflects on her character, which I don’t like.”

then I think you are COMPLETELY justified in tagging that “Koriand’r” “starfire” etc. But IF AND ONLY IF you’re prepared for a reaction. Which, hopefully, should be something like: “Well actually I feel that her attachment to Dick was a really interesting insight and way to explore that human/alien dichotomy within her, something that we do see a lot in aliens working on Earth, and she is actively working to move on and, essentially, rebel against her nature - which creates conflict in her, and shows how she’s a complex character. Also reboot Kory is a different character, yes, but she’s also got her own complexities in a similar vein and the power and love she holds is something to be inspired by, in my opinion,” and definitely NOT something like “WOW YOU’RE REALLY STUPID clearly you haven’t read enough Kory and you really, really misunderstand her character and uhhh she is a strong independent woman and that’s AWESOME and I smell some internalized misogyny here!!!”

I think the latter is absolutely the wrong response. I think that if you’re tagging something with a character or ship or whatever, whether good or bad, then you’re running the ‘risk’ of creating a discussion and you have to be prepared to take that discussion. So do I think posts that talk about why you don’t like a particular character or ship should be tagged with that character or ship? Absolutely, as long as #1 they’re not just plain mean and they provide some sort of basis as to why you think this #2 you’re prepared to be challenged, or entertain new ideas, or have a discussion on it.

So yes. I think that my earlier post didn’t quite explain this thoroughly. But yes, here, very good.
