So Whitmore’s email to me didn’t really give any new sources, but I did get an Powerpoint on archetypes in The Odyssey (which I’m pretty sure is not the one we used but whatever) and you know what? If I’m asserting that the Duke and the King represent the “Road of Trials” - well that doesn’t necessarily mean they represent the entire Initiation stage, but…gah. Would the “belly of the whale,” representing the final separation between Huck’s old self and new self, be when he fakes his death? Or that final fight during the Grangerfords and Shepherdsons ordeal? The Belly of the Whale represents the final stage in the departure, and Huck faking his own death would fall into that.
