FINALLY DONE WITH MY OUTLINE
and it’s so complete that it probably won’t be so difficult to get the final paper done. AND my history teacher loved my paper, haha. And Lola Montez. I’m proud! And happy. Very good. Very very good.

The Inception soundtrack is the perfect thing to be listening to while writing about Huck’s Atonement and Apotheosis.

So Whitmore’s email to me didn’t really give any new sources, but I did get an Powerpoint on archetypes in The Odyssey (which I’m pretty sure is not the one we used but whatever) and you know what? It makes me really happy and lovely and unstressed to hear from him. He sounded happy and funny and excited to hear from me, which is heartening.

misssynph replied to your post: Okay honestly to clarify what I posted a while ago… I think your original post was really good, but the extra clarification doesn’t hurt at all. This is exactly how I feel (about tagging and about the types of things that count as hate) Awesome! I was just a little worried that the intent of my original post was being slightly misunderstood. But thanks,...

This is frustrating. I don’t know where the Grangerfords and Shepherdsons fit in here. They’re just this almost random experience of pain for Huck and they just disappear once they’re done. I know they’re in there for satire but they have to function in the novel as a whole, right? It feels sort of like Twain just put that in there without regard for the wider plot of the...

Okay honestly to clarify what I posted a while ago about tags. If you’re going to be posting, “OMG I HATE KORY SO EFFING MUCH. She is a stupid whore slut and ruins everything she’s in!!!! Dick/Jason/Roy/anyone is too good for her omg go die!” then no don’t tag that “koriand’r” or “starfire” or anything like that. Because that’s...

A word that does not exist in the English...
Ya’aburnee Arabic – Both morbid and beautiful at once, this incantatory word means “You bury me,” a declaration of one’s hope that they’ll die before another person because of how difficult it would be to live without them.

Can I just point out that the part in Huck Finn where the two other guys claiming to be the Wilks brothers show up, and then the fact that they’re both wrong about the tattoo is actually hilarious Like I almost want to burst out laughing when I think about it. I just…IT’S JUST SO HILARIOUSLY RIDICULOUS. I love it.

If I’m asserting that the Duke and the King represent the “Road of Trials” - well that doesn’t necessarily mean they represent the entire Initiation stage, but…gah. I don’t know when the make that distinction between Departure and Initiation. Probably at the actual physical departure, right? When he fakes his own death? GAH.

So in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Would the “belly of the whale,” representing the final separation between Huck’s old self and new self, be when he fakes his death? Or that final fight during the Grangerfords and Shepherdsons ordeal? The Belly of the Whale represents the final stage in the departure, and Huck faking his own death would fall into that. No. That’s the crossing of the first threshold and...
